Clinical Hours Requirement

This course REQUIRES students to WORK in an animal care facility at LEAST 20 hours for the semester doing animal care.  Failure to complete the required hours will result in not being permitted to continue in the course. 

Facility Requirements

  • Students may intern/volunteer/work in any animal care facility.  
  • They may not be their own supervisor and one's own or family members animals do not count. 
  • Petting sitting services are not permitted.
  • Options for doing the hours:
    • Vet clinic (large, small, exotic, does not matter)
    • Humane society, shelter or rescue
    • Zoo, ranch (not student or family owned), stable, etc.
    • The student/their family members/etc cannot act as a supervisor and can have no interest in whether the students succeeds.

DutyRequirements

  • Only duties directly related to animal husbandry are permitted.
  • Permitted tasks
    • Cleaning cages/stalls/runs
    • Feeding/watering animals
    • Medicating animals
    • Providing enrichment, bathing/grooming, etc.
    • All tasks must be directly related to animal care.  Technician duties, reception duties are not permitted.  Examples of this include paperwork, assisting in surgery, etc.

Hours Requirements

  • Students are REQUIRED to complete a MINIMUM of 20 hours throughout the semester and submitted in unit 8..​

Time Sheet

  • Timesheet MUST be filled out completely.
  • Timesheet MUST be submitted by the posted due date or you will be locked from further course content.
  • Make sure the preceptor provides comments and signs and YOU have filled out the hours and dates/times correctly AND you have at least 20 hours showing.
  • Signature stamps, scans of signatures or computer signatures will be treated as a forgery and a violation of the academic honesty policy resulting a failing grade for the course and possible dismissal from the program.
  • Supervisors MUST sign/initial and provide the comments in their own handwriting, no exceptions.  A failing grade will result if this is not done.
  • PROOF your submission.
